Getting the Best Pitch Tracking
Throwmium uses your iPhone's camera and machine-learning ball detection to track the baseball or softball during a pitch.
For the best results:
Position your iPhone
Place your iPhone behind the backstop or in another safe location with a clear view of the pitcher and the pitch.
Keep the camera steady and avoid moving or zooming while tracking.
Use good lighting
Good lighting makes it easier for Throwmium to identify the ball.
Whenever possible, avoid:
Very dark conditions
Strong backlighting behind the pitcher
Heavy shadows across the pitching area
Situations where the baseball blends into the background
Keep the ball visible
Throwmium works best when the baseball remains visible during the pitch.
Pitchers, coaches, or other objects that block the ball can affect tracking.
Camera distance
Throwmium is designed to work from typical behind-the-backstop distances.
For the best results, experiment with your camera position and make sure the entire pitching area is visible.
Why Didn't Throwmium Track My Pitch?
Throwmium's ball tracking can be affected by environmental and camera conditions.
If a pitch isn't tracked correctly, try:
1. Check your lighting
Make sure the ball is clearly visible.
2. Check your camera position
Make sure the pitcher and pitch path are fully visible.
3. Keep the iPhone steady
A stable camera gives Throwmium a better view of the pitch.
4. Make sure the camera lens is clean
A dirty lens can reduce image quality.
5. Try again
Occasionally a pitch may not be detected correctly. Throwmium's tracking is designed to improve with favorable camera and lighting conditions, but no computer-vision system will detect every pitch perfectly.
My MPH Looks Wrong
Throwmium provides an estimated pitch speed using camera-based tracking.
Results can vary depending on:
Camera position
Distance
Lighting
Ball visibility
Motion blur
Camera hardware
Frame rate
Pitch trajectory
Tracking quality
For this reason, Throwmium should be used as a training and performance tool, not as a certified radar measurement device.
If you're comparing Throwmium with a radar device, make sure both devices are positioned appropriately and are measuring the same pitch.
Slow-Motion Capture
Throwmium can capture pitches in slow motion when the feature is enabled in Settings.
To enable it:
Settings → Slow-Motion Video Capture → ON
Slow-motion clips can then be reviewed in your saved clips.
Ball Path
The ball-path overlay provides a visual representation of the detected movement of the baseball during the pitch.
To enable or disable it:
Settings → Ball Path Overlay
The path is generated from the ball positions detected by Throwmium and should be considered a visual training aid rather than a precise physical trajectory measurement.
MPH Overlay
You can choose whether the MPH result is included in your saved video.
Go to:
Settings → MPH Overlay
When disabled, the saved video can be viewed without the MPH graphic baked into the video.
Your Pitch Clips
Throwmium allows you to review recorded pitches in the Clips section of the app.
Your saved clips may include:
Pitch video
MPH
Pitch information
Ball-path visualization
Slow-motion video, when enabled
You can delete clips you no longer want to keep.
